Volunteers needed for the LAWS Run for the Shelter 5K and Half Marathon

One of the Loudoun Road Runners annual community service events is to provide volunteers for two water stations for the LAWS Run for the Shelter and we need your help! We need intrepid volunteers who are willing to brave the elements (hopefully the elements will be favorable this year) on Sunday, April 18th to distribute water and cheer on the runners. If you're able to help contact Marcia Keene at marcia.keene@gmail.com.

LRR Officer Election

As a member of the Loudoun Road Runners you are eligible to participate in the on-line election of club officers. Details are posted on this site (eyes right).

The process is divided into two steps--on-line nominations first, then the election. During nominations, you will have the opportunity to propose people for various positions. After all the nominations have been processed, you will be able to cast an on-line vote for the candidates of your choice.

Santa's Big Butt Half-Marathon

This note arrived from Karsten Brown of the Shenandoah Valley Runners:

The second race in the Shenandoah Valley Runners' Winter Series, the
Jingle Bell 5K, HAD been scheduled to take place tomorrow-- Saturday
19 December-- at Blandy Experimental Farm & State Arboretum near
Boyce, Virginia. But due to the big snowstorm, the SVR is postponing
the Jingle Bell 5K until NEXT Saturday-- the 26th. It'll still be at
Blandy, and it'll still start at 9:30. Contact r.d. Duane Williamson
at duanegwilliamson@comcast.net if you have any questions or if you
want to volunteer next Saturday.

Rotary Resolution Run--1/1/2010

The club is once again supporting the Rotary Resolution Run on January 1, 2010. It's a great way to start the new year. We need volunteers to work the race, so here is your chance to help the club fulfill one of its goals; i.e., "volunteer involvement in local races." You can help by being a course marshal, working a water stop, helping at the start/finish line, or by doing other jobs as needed. Please help out if you can. Volunteers need to meet in the gymnasium of the Ida Lee Park Recreation Center at 9:30 a.m.

LRR Annual Election

The annual LRR election will begin in early January with on-line nominations. You can find the latest information LRR Election Site. On-line voting will follow with results to be announced at the Annual General Meeting. Club members will begin receiving informational e-mails about the process in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you are inclined to nominate someone (including yourself) for a board position--president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, members at large--give some thought to names and confirm with your candidates.

Detour on W&OD Trail

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA), in cooperation with Dominion Virginia Power, has announced a 2 mile detour of the W&OD Trail between mile markers 36 and 38, beginning in mid-December, 2009, to enable Dominion to bury a transmission line under the trail. The two organizations negotiated a paved detour, which will keep the trail open safely to the public throughout the one-year construction process. Click here to read more . . .

New LRR Web Site

Since you're reading this, you know that the Loudoun Road Runner web site has changed.  Not just the look and feel are different. Lots of new capabilities and features are on the way. As you navigate through the site, you'll notice that some pages look preliminary. This is because we wanted to make the improvements available immediately, and work on updating content over the coming weeks, so be patient, and check back periodically to see what's new.
